Description
Klingbeil, designer and manufacturer of custom skating boots, from Manhattan, New York, had a 60-year tradition in making skating boots.
The company was one of the very top custom boot manufacturers in figure skating. They had long been a family-owned business, manufacturing all of their boots in a little workshop in NYC; the son took over from the father in the 2000s. And the Klingbeils were incredibly supportive of “their” skaters. and were noted for their fresh bagels and coffee every Th/F/Sat morning for fittings.
In 2012 it was announced that the economy had hit hard and they had to close. The skating community rallied to support them and they were able to stay in business by developing a partnership with fashion boot people. Offering stock boots was relatively new for them – and offering stock boot-and-blade sets was brand- new.
Sadly, Donald Klingbeil passed away from injuries incurred in a car accident in November 2018.
